Four South American countries are candidates to host the 2030 World Cup
Written by Adriatik BALLA 4 Gusht 2022
Four Hispanic countries in South America are planning to host a World Cup together and have submitted their candidacy to FIFA, garnering a lot of attention from the sports media around the world. Thus, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay, well-known countries in the South American continent, have presented as never before their candidacy to organize a World Cup, understandably by dividing the matches in such a way that each side has its own benefits as in image and finance, and at the same time represents most of the continent in world football. Such a proposal is not unexpected, since earlier in FIFA a joint request to organize the World Cup had also been brought by the countries of Central America, Asia and Africa. But this of the four countries above is something beautiful and because of the fact that the players produced by these countries have a great impact on European football and challenge another great country there, such as Brazil. So, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay have formalized the joint candidacy for the organization of the 2030 World Cup, which also marks the 100th anniversary of the first edition that was held in Montevideo (Uruguay), a competition that was won by the local national team. "This is not a government project, but a dream of a continent", said Alejandro Dominguez, president of CONMEBOL (South American Football Confederation) alongside the leaders of the four countries' federations. "We are in this historic place where everything began", he added during the press conference held at the Centenario stadium in Montevideo. where Uruguay defeated Argentina 4-2 in the first ever final in the distant year 1930. Dominguez continued even further: "There will be other editions of the World Cup, but the centenary will be celebrated only once!" In the project of the four states, 14 stadiums have been defined that will host the 48 national teams that will participate. If the project is realized and selected by FIFA, it would be the sixth edition held in South America after Uruguay 1930, Brazil 1950, Chile 1962, Argentina 1978 and Brazil 2014. The four Latin countries will challenge the joint candidacy of Spain & Portugal, while Britain and Ireland have withdrawn from the competition and have concentrated their efforts on Euro 2028. Ansa reports that Morocco, Israel and the United Arab Emirates are also interested in organizing the 2030 World Cup.
