Do you sleep with electric blankets? Here's what you risk
Written by SOT.COM.AL 2 Dhjetor 2021
There is no more annoying moment than falling asleep tired on cold sheets. No matter how much you turn on the heat in the house, the sheets are always cool and you need some time to cover yourself very well to feel a little warmth. Lately more and more people are using the electric blanket solution and if you listen to them you will only have to tell them the best.
Wonderful sleep, warmth and a warmth that does not give you the courage to get out of bed in the morning to go to work. But there are many who are afraid of the current and prefer to put another quilt over them than to use an electric blanket.
How safe is it after all? What should we be careful about? Experts note that if you pay attention to a few things, then there is no reason to hesitate.
The most significant danger from using the electric blanket was until a few years ago the fire broke out. Old technology blankets were unsafe in this regard and especially blankets that already had a long service life (over ten years).
From 2001 onwards, electric blankets are manufactured with integrated safety systems, with automatic power-off mechanism depending on the desired temperature (thermostat) or operating time (timer) or both.
The risk of electric shock is also real, so when buying a blanket (but also occasionally) we should check the surface for any scratches or damage. Modern blankets certainly have very strong insulation and this is confirmed by the fact that they are washable, even in the washing machine.
However, it is advisable that vulnerable groups such as infants, young children, diabetics, heart patients and the elderly not sleep with the electric blanket plugged in, but use it to warm the bed before going to bed.
So it is best to turn on the electric blanket on the upper stairs a few hours before you go to bed, enough to store heat on the mattress and covers. Before you go to bed, you can close it or put it on the lowest level, depending on your preference.
What to look out for when using the electric blanket:
Do not nail the electric blanket to the nail bed.
I should not come into contact with the blanket with wet hands or feet
Do not switch on the electric blanket if it is damaged or damaged
We do not dare to light the electric blanket while it is still folded.
We should not place electric blankets on the beds of helpless people, babies or people suffering from a problem that makes them hypersensitive to heat.
We should not use electric blankets on rollaway beds and if we do we should make sure that there is no risk of the power cord getting tangled or crumbling.
If the blanket you have is older than ten years, it may be best to replace it.
