German Chancellor calls for Western Balkans to join EU, Serbia's relations with Russia broken, Vucic shows where Putin went wrong

"All Western Balkan countries must join the EU." This was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz yesterday after meeting with Prime Minister Kurti, calling on Kosovo to participate in constructive negotiations with Serbia. Scholz said the comprehensive and lasting agreement would contribute to the stability of the Western Balkans region. He also pledged to work with EU partners on visa liberalization for Kosovo. "In terms of time periods, we can not say, because it depends on other bodies, but we are interested in this happening quickly," said Scholz. He is expected to visit Pristina and other countries in the region. Prior to the meeting, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vuçi,, stated for the German newspaper Handlesbalt that the EU is a strategic goal of Serbia, which remains set on the European path and that this is why it is meeting with Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Vucic said Serbia needs the respect and appreciation the country had from former Chancellor Angela Merkel, and stressed that he wants nothing in Berlin other than a good European perspective. But another hot issue, was addressed in Germany. Russian President Vladimir Putin legitimized Kosovo's independence, sparking much debate in Serbia. Vucic was asked about this topic, where he said that the Russian president used the precedent of Kosovo to justify the occupation of Donbas. "There was no genocide in Kosovo and there is not a single court that sees this differently. But Putin is using NATO's violation of international law in 1999 for his actions in Donbas. "He explains, based on the arguments of the West at the time, that there was genocide in the Donbas, for which he must intervene," Vucic said.
