The study, published in the journal BMJ Open, says people who consume pasta as part of a low-glycemic diet may lose a few extra pounds. Pasta has a low glycemic level, which means it raises blood sugar levels to a slower level than white bread, which is a processed carbohydrate. Moreover, according to the study, eating pasta as part of such a regimen, does not contribute to weight gain or to the increase of fat deposits.
Carbohydrates and the Impact on Weight
According to health nutrition experts, the notion that people should cut down on carbohydrates or give them up is wrong. They say that if people want to lose weight, they should focus more on personalized nutrition according to the needs of the body, but also on physical activity with the objective of burning calories.
Pasta, especially when fresh, is rich in fiber, which not only satisfies hunger but also helps to release energy more easily. One of the healthiest ingredients in pasta is carbohydrates (dietary fiber and sugars), which are a real catalyst in the transfer of energy to metabolism.
