Convicted for drugs and deported to Greece, the Albanian returns to Britain and

An Albanian expelled from Great Britain for involvement in narcotics activity was caught again in West Yorkshire two years later after crossing the English Channel by boat. The Albanian, identified as Arsen Murati, 29, was jailed for cultivating cannabis in November 2021 and shortly afterwards left Britain and was sent to Greece. It is learned that he had two citizenships, Albanian and Greek.

On March 19 of this year, British officers stopped a silver Honda Civic and found the 29-year-old Albanian inside. Upon seeing his driver's license with his records, officers arrested him.  It is understood  he had been staying at an address in Barkly Road, Cross Flatts, Leeds and pleaded guilty to breaching an eviction order. The Albanian appeared at Leeds Crown Court this week from HMP Leeds where he was being held in custody.

The prosecution said Murati had applied to stay in the UK in October 2019, which was granted, allowing him to stay until December this year. But he was jailed for eight months at Bradford Crown Court in November 2021 and deported two months later. After being caught on the M62, he told officers he had been back in the UK for around 8 months and had disembarked on an illegal boat from France without informing immigration officers. The Albanian was sentenced to 12 months in prison and expects to be deported again after he is eligible for parole.

"You didn't like it in Greece and so you came back to the UK. You know you shouldn't have come and you shouldn't have come in a small boat,"  Judge Andrew Stubbs said.
