Written by Nga Sakip Cami 30 Nëntor 2023
-"Hometown, Stebleva, my pride, my inspiration" Esat Musliu-
Director Esat Musliu was born in 1946 in Steblevë, Dibra. He spent his primary school and childhood in Steblevë, his native village. He completed his 7-year schooling in the city of Peshkopia, living in the dormitory of distant students. In those years, there was no 7-year school in Steblevë. In 1960, the family moved to Tirana, thanks to the work of his father Jakupi, who was a real construction master. It was at this time that Esati, after winning the competition, began studying sculpture at the "Jordan Misja" artistic high school. After high school, Esati attended higher studies at the Academy of Fine Arts. He worked for 3 years in the humorous magazine "Hosteni" where, in addition to literature, he also worked on cartoons, working alongside great humor writers such as Dritëroi Agolli, Niko Nikolla, etc. From 1973-1975 he specialized in film directing in the postgraduate course at the Academy of Arts. In 1986, he specialized in Italy as a film director, since in his work as a director at the Kinostudio "New Albania" he had caught the eye for his specialized work as a director of many successful films. When you say Esat Musliu, you remember the name of a prominent director, author of many Albanian feature films. Esati has collaborated with great actors of our theater and cinema such as Sulejman Pitarka, Margarita Xhepa, Timo Flloko, Agim Qirjaqi, Ndriçim Xhepa, Xhevdet Ferri, Rajmonda Bulku, Luiza Xhuvani, Matilda Makoçi, etc. He has made dozens of films, among which we will mention some of them:
"They Were Four" 1977,

"Hearts that never grow old" 1977

The protagonist of the film Margarita Begolli returns to Albania after 20 years with lost memory. The sick woman shouts: "Hiqmani the circle" This call is always relevant to appeal to the nation's memory.
"The first night of freedom" 1984
The events of the film take place in the fall of 1944 in the newly liberated Berat, where a group of partisans works to normalize the post-war situation.
"The road to freedom" 1982
The film takes its theme from the National Liberation War. A group of partisan girls and women leave for the newly liberated Berat to participate in the Congress of anti-fascist women. They have to go through a difficult path between enemies as well as through another difficult path, that of defeating patriarchal and conservative concepts, of emancipating women and the whole society.
"Years of Waiting" 1989
The events of the film take place in the 20s and are triggered by emigration. An emigrant returns from the kurbet extremely worried and shocked. Everyone asks him about his relatives. He doesn't answer. He is silent. What to tell? Only bad luck. The film is based on the novel "Lëdina e lotëve", but the director Esat Mysliu has known this tragedy of Albanians through his people who have worked for years on the curves. He lived this drama spiritually. Therefore, it is undoubtedly one of the most successful films of director Musliu and of Albanian cinematography.
Directed by Esat Musliu, performed by Tinka Kurti, Anila Bisha, Ferdinand Radi, etc. The film appeals to hope, to change and to believe. In 2003, he went to New York, USA and made the film.
"Easter and Sofia"
Director Esat Musliu has also made several films for children and documentaries. He is not only a director but also a screenwriter. In some of his films, he is also a producer. Now Esat Musliu is a free director and creator, but the market economy has forced him to accumulate, without being able to fully express his abilities, which are at their peak. Esati has never been separated in spirit and heart from his fellow villagers Steblevas. He is a very good activist of the association "Stebleva" and works for its success. His son Egoni is a very good operator and cameraman, works at the national television "Klan" and continues his father's path. The girl graduated abroad, while her husband Meri, the well-known speaker and journalist of Albanian Television, constantly encourages and supports her in the path of artistic creativity. Without a doubt, without exaggeration, we would say that Esat Musliu is a national value, it is the pride of Stebleva, Dibra and Albania.
