This is why Jorgo Goro will be voted for the fourth time in the Municipality of Himara
Written by Bardhyl Bejko 1 Prill 2023
The mayor of Himara, Jorgo Goro, is the only reconfirmed mayor in the Vlora District. There is no secret to running for re-election. The fact that Jorgua is dedicated, he is the man whose main goal is to serve the population of 21 villages and the city of Himara. What stands out even in a casual conversation with him is his strong character, few words and a lot of work. It is not for nothing that it is called a strong and unbending stick. It is the municipality that starts from the entrance gate, Nivica to the foot of the mountain of Llogara, where Palasa has been built over the centuries, resting on the slopes with roots deep in the rocks. It is the village at the entrance when you descend from Llogarana and cross the road parallel to the Ion. It is our coast, the pearl of the Albanian Riviera. The villages look crowded on each other's shoulders with the view from the sea. Houses white as if washed with milk and illuminated by the rays of the brightest sun perhaps in the entire globe. How far is Dhërmiu, already radically changed through the project of 100 villages, where the traditional and the modern merge into one, the dazzling white of the lime with the red of the tiles that cover the roofs, which resemble the traditional neighborhood of Berat one on one the windows. All roads lead down to the sea, where resorts and hotels have multiplied and promenades are being built. Just after Dhërmi, perhaps the most picturesque village of Albania, Vunoi appears with the crowns of the mountains, which seem to cover their heads with a giant gray hat. And successively traverses the Ilias to marvel at the bright Himara painted with the deepest blue of the Ionian Sea. Himara is an oasis of beauty and tranquility. Hundreds of buildings and hotels have been built during these years and the construction boom continues at a galloping pace. It is Himara, that the great, our writer of national proportions, Petro Marko, has drawn with so much pathos and art in his immortal novels. It is the Himara of eminent poets and journalists. To talented economists, professors who have given economic science their soul and knowledge. It is Himara where the five-time world champion weightlifter Piro Dhima was born. And also prominent businessmen, who have made history as prominent managers. Further on, Qeparoi unfolds, which has descended from the old Qeparoi raised on the rock at the water line. It is the amazing village built of stone transported by wings, the village of women and men, incomparable workers. It is the village since when on these streets the princess of a state with a royal regime stopped and asked: How much does this village sell for and can I buy this miracle? The inhabitants were surprised when they heard the princess's request. One of the men of the village, not knowing that the lady was a princess of a rich country, answered her: There is no bank in the world to buy this village if the gold weighs as much as this mountain opposite. It is Qeparoi that has its roots in the father of one of the longest serving heads of the CIA, George Tenet. It is Qeparoi that produces the best quality oil, which took one of the first places in the world at the London fair some time ago, where only for the content of cigarette smoke, which one of the workers had smoked, it did not come out on the first place. Behind remains Qeparoi and in front of you is the amazing Borshi with the longest coastline and endless sand. that shines as if shards of multi-colored ruby ??have been scattered by the waves. The journey continues towards Lukova after crossing Piqeras, surrounded by endless green olive trees. Piqerasin, the village that has given the country two Heroes of the People, the well-known assassin who assassinated the emperor, Vasil Llaçi and Mitro Xhani, who died heroically in the battle in Dukaj in Tepelena. And you go up to Lukovë to go to Shënvasil and finish in Nivicë, which is the gateway to the Blue Coast. But the borders of Himara also go up to Fterrë e Çorraj to cross further to the right and left of Piluri of the famous songs and polyphony of the brilliant poet, Lefter Çipa, to go up to Kuç and descend to Vranisht. There are five villages on the other side of the mountain, which have historically been part of the sub-prefecture of Himara. It is the municipality with the longest length stretching from the seaside to across the mountains, covered with glory and history that lives on for centuries. It is these villages with the cherry on the cake, Himara included in the municipality with high income and without any debt to the state. In this particular municipality, for twelve years, Mayor Jorgo Gori has managed to change many things and carefully balance the relations between different communities, locals, newcomers, and all those who live near the incomparable miracle of Albanian beauty. In Lukovo, I met on one of these days, Muharrem Abedin, a former iron trade unionist, who is strict and demanding, who does not compromise with anyone, either with power or with money. - When I saw mistakes, he says, I knocked on the mayor's door. I raised my voice, I shouted, Yes, Jorgua has never answered me in a harsh tone. On the contrary, he listened to me and tried to find a solution. When he says yes, the job is done. If he said no, don't go after him because he won't change his mind because it's about words, but first about solutions. The villagers from Palasa in Nivica talk a lot about Jorgo. They are direct. But in the end they say that Himara has changed. It is persistent and fair. Strict, yes true. He also has these relations with the administration. There are days when the door of the town hall is not closed from morning to evening. That the mayor does not tell anyone to leave today, come tomorrow. A year ago, in the balance made for cleanliness in the municipalities of Albania, the leaders of Himara were not spared criticism. But Jorgua did not show indifference, nor was he excused. Changed the cleaning strategy. Removed that cleaning firm and replaced it with another. Leaders were put in charge of the cleaning action and at the end of 2022, Himara qualified as the cleanest municipality in Albania. And this was not achieved with words, nor with orders, but with work, discipline, control, passion, perseverance, love. That there can be no tourism without cleanliness. The municipality of Himara is one of the municipalities with the highest per capita income in the country. In the territory of this municipality, families in need can be counted on the fingers of the hand. Who does not have a house or hotel for tourism, has a plot of olives or oranges. And this is income that ensures life and well-being. In the territory of the municipality, says Jorgua, more than a thousand businesses operate, mainly in the direction of tourism. Dozens of hotels are built every year. There are no shortage of large resorts. Tourist villages. Luxury hotels. For the mayor of Himara, the construction in this area is not chaotic, it is studied and detailed, general and partial plans are made. The propaganda that land is stolen or the land is abused is not real. Or that the lands are given to the oligarchs. Even more so after the corrections and title deeds carried out by ASHK in cooperation with the municipality. According to Mayor Goro, the investment boom in this municipality is visible and tangible. Look at just one investment, that of drinking water behind the energy highway of the distribution network and cabins or the electrical substation on the eastern side of Himara. This investment has made us forget about the power outage and the lights going out every time it rained on the mountain of Çika or Llogara. It has been a while since the sources of Lëpusha, near Ku?i, intensive work is being done for one of the country's largest water pipelines, which will guarantee drinking water throughout the coast. Over 30 million euros will be invested here through KF. Whoever is able to cross the Vlora River will encounter thousands of high-pressure pipes, which will take the water to distribute it throughout the Coast region. There are over a thousand businesses, most of them in the field of tourism, not only massive, but also elite up to luxury hotels, rising from the water line to village dwellings. Summer here turns into the Mecca of the Coast. Business management has the assistance of the municipality and the security of water and energy supply. The municipality of Himara does not see itself outside the business, nor as its tutor, but as a guide to climb to the highest level of quality and comfort. The income of the municipality has increased and exceeds the expenses. Businesses on the Coast are contributors to the municipality's coffers, which are redistributed and used rigorously and not according to practice, the municipality's money is and, let it become grapes and plums. The concern of the mayor of Himare for the development of tourism and its support with all possibilities, with roads, systems and protective measures for beaches, where after suffering everything becomes a lesson, as was the unfortunate case of the loss of life, is palpable. of a child in Potam, for which Mayor Goro says he feels pain even today. The measures have been strengthened and the municipality has implemented the requirements of the law. During this season, the municipality has genuine and even more efficient and strict plans. Tourists are the guarantors of the income of businesses and the budget of the municipality. The goal is clear for a better quality tourist season. Harmonization with the beaches, historical areas and valuable objects, which are so numerous in this area. When talking about achievements in the municipality, Jorgua, not out of modesty, never appreciates them as personal will, nor as his merit. It is collegial. He knows how to activate everyone and make everyone do their job. The town hall is not a building, although it has modern surroundings that shine with cleanliness. The building really has value, because ultimately it creates working conditions and service to the residents, who have their problems and demands. What makes the Municipality of Himara distinct from the others is the selection of personnel, their dedication. You feel appreciated by the Department of Finance, where Laert Mezani is the head, who is worth noting that he finished his studies in finance in Italy, while the deputy head, Mrs. Blerina Bala, who as the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality gives direction to the work quickly, does not keep on the table, the pending letter is giving direction immediately, as urbanism is active, the legal sector to Orest Vela, who serves with kindness and correctness. Citizen communication specialist Anest Velço, who is like a dispatcher who communicates with anyone who is looking for a solution in the municipality or the director of the cadastre, who carry a truly endless volume of work on their backs. Yes, Mr. Goro's ubiquitous assistants are the mayors of villages such as Stefan Kokëdhima in Qeparo or Aleks Marko in Dhërmi and all the villages of the municipality. In the municipality of Himara, there are representatives from all communities from the Himarjots to Vranishti, Lukova and all the villages under its jurisdiction, this is the spirit with which the mayor, Jorgo Goro, directs and harmonizes affairs. It is this effort, it is the persistence and dedication of Goro, who never considers himself, the first of the municipality, but one of them, as an equal among equals. It is the unsparing work and service of Jorgo Goro and the employees of this municipality that have made Himara and the 21 villages here by the sea and across the mountain, which experience development and change, of course they are not the end, but a step towards the future. And the municipality of Himara, with the resources it has, will manage to be at the forefront of its sisters, not only within the country, but also in the municipalities that are wetted by the waters of the Ionian. For these and many achievements and development in every village and town of Himara, they have welcomed the re-candidacy of Jorgo Goro, even though for the fourth time.
