In a few months, they became the go-to lawyers for multinational companies looking to invest in the rapidly growing Albanian economy. But former clients claim they hired Malltez for her family connections and to fend off blackmail threats, not just her legal skills. Berisha's tenure as prime minister of Albania from 2005 to 2013 was marked more by corruption scandals than honesty. Malltezi&Kola were involved in some of the accusations, mostly for the firm's role in the Fazlliç affair, and Argita Malltezi was accused by the opposition of acting as the prime minister's gatekeeper. Maltezi was widely regarded as an eminence in her father's government.
