Some headaches last longer, not to mention colds that last even longer, compared to some Serbian ministers' grief over the Srebrenica Genocide Resolution adopted on May 23. This is how the Croatian media "Jutarnji List" writes with irony, referring to the vote in New York and the reactions from the Serbian side. Those gathered in the building of the Government of Serbia, first listened to the historic speech of the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vu?i?, and then, with faces full of concern, saw the voting of the resolution itself. Anxiety and uncertainty were replaced by sadness, but wrapped in flags they apparently decided that this would not sway them. With the help of the media they turned the defeat into a new epic victory, the headlines screamed about the proposer's debacle and the vote was treated as a celebration.

Serbia forgets the "pain"

However, from Trieste, where the Business Forum was being held, Tomislav Momirov posted a photo of the smiling Serbian delegation on his Instagram profile. "One day after President Vu?i?'s great victory in New York, here in Trieste at the Business Forum we are proudly fighting for new investments and better chances for our economy in the Italian market," he wrote. In addition to Momirovic, we can also see other Serbian ministers in the photo. They are Irena Vujovic, Dubravka Gedovic, Goran Vesic and Aleksandar Martinovic and they all have one thing in common - a smile from ear to ear. "Of course they won't get it from such an important victory of Vu?i?", writes "Jutarnji List" ironically again, which adds that it is still nice that after the defeat in the General Assembly, they were overcome with sadness, they immediately returned a smile to their faces and continued their lives.

Vucic's intentions

Dragan Popovic from the Center for Practical Politics says it is absolutely clear that the Srebrenica Resolution is being used to cover local elections. "I think it is clear that the goal of the Vucic government is for such issues to be at the center of the campaign. In those situations, he can play with the old story that Serbia is under threat, that there are enemies from all sides and that we need unity and that we must rally around the leader. He invents a threat, presents himself as a savior. It's very perfidious, but effective for him and it's not the first time it's happened", explains the interlocutor of "Nova.rs". He points out that this is very important for the government in a situation where there are local elections, because it covers local issues. “They demonstrate very clearly how bad the SNS government is. She has nothing positive in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis or Çaçak that she would go public with. It is absolutely clear that the story of Srebrenica is being used to cover the local elections and ensure the continued power of the SNS", concludes Popovic.

Links with Montenegro

Speaking about Vucic's "nail" and the possible consequences for his career, but also for Serbia itself, foreign policy analyst Boshko Jaksic says that he thinks there will be no consequences. "I think that this belligerent rhetoric that we have heard in recent weeks will calm down quickly and will have no consequences, especially not those mentioned by President Aleksandër Vu?i? and the Speaker of the Assembly Ana Brnabi?. I woke up this morning and Serbia was not declared a genocidal state, and the Serbs are not a genocidal people, as they scared us," says Jakši? for "Nova.rs". When it comes to the relations in the region, Boshko Jakši? answers the question whether after the adoption of the resolution they may deteriorate even further. "Those relations have already taken the road, but I don't know if a situation like the one in 2008 will happen, when the ambassadors of Macedonia and Montenegro were expelled because they recognized Kosovo's independence. In general, I think that Vu?i? has no reason to criticize Montenegro, because their amendment contributed to the fact that, in the end, we are not talking about any kind of collective responsibility, but individual. As far as BiH is concerned, I think that Milorad Dodik's threats about the secession of Republika Srpska are also empty words", concludes Jakši?.
