About 21 thousand families in need in Kosovo, the government allocates 5 million euros for heating
Written by SOT.COM.AL 6 Dhjetor 2023
The Government of Kosovo has introduced measure 1.2 for mitigating the immediate socio-economic impact of the energy crisis through additional one-time support for the purchase of fuel for heating during the winter for families benefiting from social assistance.
The Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, has announced that about 21 thousand families with a total of about 81 thousand beneficiary members will be subsidized for the purchase of fuel, in order to get through the winter as easily as possible.
Murati said that 5 million euros have been allocated for Measure 1.2, while this money is part of the EU's support package of 75 million euros for energy that Kosovo has made.
He indicated that 120 euros will be allocated per family, and then 30 euros for each family member. According to him, this measure is valid only once and the total value is 5 million euros. It has shown that there is no need for an application, as the calculations have been made by the Department for Social Work and the list of persons receiving social assistance will be verified.
"The Department for Social Work makes the calculation, the calculation is done in such a way that for each family, as a family, the benefit is 120 euros, which is equivalent to two cubic meters, while also for each member, 30 additional euros will be allocated. For a family of four, the total benefit is 240 euros. The subsidy goes directly to the family's bank account", said Murati.
He indicated that they are now in the process of verifying the lists.
"We are in the process of verifying the lists, when the verification is done, for the families that are currently in social assistance, about 21 thousand families with about 81 thousand beneficiary members, then the support is realized. I believe that it will be done in the following days".
And the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has told about the support measures he has taken during his government.
"Depending on the circumstances, the method may have changed, but never our final goal. Our citizens know that in the face of the difficulties of the time they will never be alone or lonely. We are and will remain the Government that leads and supports, that leads and leaves no one behind".
The head of cooperation at the EU Office in Kosovo, Johaness Madsen-Stenbaek, has said that great progress has been made in the implementation of the package and that this is aimed at accelerating economic development.
"We expect to continue cooperation in the energy sector and investment implementation reforms to ensure a good future and bring Kosovo closer to the EU". monitor
