You may continue to feel tired, weak and cough for a week after you have recovered. However, to recover faster and get back to your daily life, you can try the tips below:

Your body needs time and energy to fight the flu virus, which means your daily routine will have to be restored. If possible avoid outside tasks and chores (inside and outside the home) until you start to feel better.

In addition to helping you recover, staying home also prevents you from spreading the flu to others in your community or workplace. Flu can be dangerous for adults and young children, so it's vital to avoid contact with others while contagious.

A symptom of the flu is a high temperature, which can lead to sweating. You may also experience vomiting or diarrhea. Your body needs plenty of fluids to replace what you've lost and even more to fight infection.

Water is best, but you can also drink herbal teas or tea with honey.

These can have a calming effect on your symptoms by keeping you hydrated. However, two things you should always avoid are alcohol and caffeine.

Sleep as much as you can

Sleep is your body's best medicine when fighting the flu. Curling up on the couch watching TV isn't a bad idea, but don't stay up late watching your favorite show.

Go to bed earlier than usual and sleep longer if you can. You can also take a nap during the day to give your body more time to recover.

Rest and sleep also reduce the risk of serious flu complications, such as pneumonia.

It can be difficult to sleep with a stuffy nose and cough. Try these tips to breathe easier and sleep better:

-Use an extra pillow to support your head and reduce pressure on your sinuses.

-Sleep with a humidifier in the room so your throat doesn't dry out.

-Take a warm shower before bed.

You may be tempted to skip a bowl of ice cream or a bag of chips, but your body needs fresh, more nutritious foods to recover quickly from the flu.

Fresh fruits and vegetables provide important vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that strengthen your immune system as it fights the virus.

You may not have much of an appetite, but it's still important to eat regular meals to maintain your strength.
