London sinks Sali Berisha, the British ambassador in Tirana Alastair King Smith warns that there is no cooperation with "non-women" and calls on politicians to work for the citizens, here is the message for Bardhi's group and why Parliament should return to normality

London sinks Sali Berisha, the British ambassador in Tirana Alastair King Smith

The Ambassador of Great Britain to Albania, Alastair King Smith, stated that the Parliament in the country must be functional. In an interview for "ABC News", Smith said yesterday that Albanian politicians should work for the citizen's interest. Smith added that Great Britain has sanctioned certain individuals and confirmed that there will be no cooperation with them, referring to former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, who has been declared "non-grata" by London. Among other things, the ambassador of Great Britain in Albania, Alastair King Smith, considers the opening of the Kuçova air base, which will now serve as a NATO tactical base in our country, a great moment for Albania, but also for Europe. . Smith said that it has been a key member of NATO since its membership in the military alliance 15 years ago. Meanwhile, Ambassador Alastair King Smith stated that British investments in our country are currently focused on the north. Mr. Smith said that investments are concentrated in this area, as there are connections between Albanians from the north of Albania and Albanians in Great Britain. According to him, the British Chamber of Commerce has started work to expand trade throughout the country. Therefore, the ambassador of Great Britain in Albania, Alastair King Smith, says that there will be a joint task force with our country for illegal immigrants. Smith even said that thanks to the agreement with the Albanian government, there is a 90% decrease in the number of Albanians entering the United Kingdom illegally.

- Mr. Ambassador Smith, I would like to talk first about the opening of the NATO air base, how do you see it?

This is a great moment for Albania and Europe, it shows the ever growing partnership we have. Albania has been a key member of NATO since the beginning, we celebrate 15 years of Albania's membership and the 75th anniversary of NATO as an organization. This alliance has never been more important than now. We see this because of Russian aggression against Ukraine. I am really proud of the representatives of the United Kingdom serving in Albania, at a time when Albania plays such an important role in NATO for Europe and the whole world.

- The agreements that have been made between our two countries, the first is about immigrants and the other is the one made between SPAK and the British NCA, do you have a comment?

As for the immigrants, it was at the core of the communique that our ministers signed, but it was much broader than that. Defense is also mentioned, at the core of this is an increase in our partnership in defense, economic development, justice, education, culture. This is one of the ways we deal with challenges. Immigration will continue to be an important part of this. The agreement, the partnership with Albania and the Albanian government have been very successful and have led to a 90% drop in the number of Albanians entering the UK illegally. We must have consistency in this view. This is of interest to all European countries. I believe that you will see that with the joint task force, we are trying to expand it in the region, Albania is showing the world how it manages to do something like this.

- What about the agreement between SPAK and NCA?

This is important and it was fantastic to have the Director General of Crime visit Albania. He didn't make many visits and it was his first time here. We want to deal with criminal issues and there will be results. They are specific operations that bring criminal prosecution in the justice system in Albania or even in Britain. This partnership will have results in the coming years.

- How do you see what the opposition sees as an opposition action and blocks the sessions in the Parliament?

It is very important that the Parliament functions in the interest of democracy and citizens. This is the responsibility of the opposition, as well as the majority. It is important that all politicians work together towards this goal. We have had divisive challenges and debates and in this context they have enabled us to act together. Whether the majority, i.e. the majority or the opposition, they must find a way to move forward, it belongs to both parties. Politicians should make active efforts.

-The fact that the Democratic Party is in a fight within it about who is the real DP, the Bardhi-Berisha group or the rest has created a stalemate in the electoral reform, how do you see it?

It is very important that the Parliament functions in the interest of democracy and citizens. This is the responsibility of the opposition, as well as the majority. It is important that all politicians work together towards this goal. The Assembly is the key institution to advance the citizen's interest. The assembly and the committees must function. We have a broad approach, we do not define groups of individuals. There are specific decisions for specific individuals and we are not committed to them. With others we want dialogue, we want engagement. It is not for me to comment on domestic politics. I will not communicate on behalf of a list of 'non-women' people. I can't comment. Our position is very clear. Decisions about 'non-women' are specific to individuals, not to groups. We engage with individuals who are not defined as such.

-Investments of the United Kingdom in our country, how did you divide the projects and areas?

You are right. There have been great efforts to increase investments in the north of Albania. We have seen more efforts to bring the right skills to young people, to enable them to work more effectively in Albania, in any field they choose. The British Council will invest in schools, we will also engage them in the private sector. It's not just about the North, the Chamber of Commerce has started work to expand trade across the country. We are currently focusing on the north, we have connections between Albanians in Britain and those in Northern Albania. It will be an area where we will invest. Over the coming years we will see more businesses benefiting and the national sector engaging in the North. I believe it is important for the future. We are on the right track. We have full access to investments, we focus on the north to help young people have a solution in their country, if they want to leave do it legally. We have launched several centers for young entrepreneurs, we will provide support with training and real information. We will also have a program for alternative routes to have better opportunities for the future. The North has many opportunities for tourism, agriculture and other fields. If we try together we can bring a big change for the north, but also for the whole country.
