"Kosovo can be in NATO", the Parliamentary Assembly will examine the situation between Pristina and Belgrade

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly met this weekend in Sofia, Bulgaria, and Kosovo is also on its three-day agenda.

During the presentation of the draft report to the Assembly, the representative of Great Britain, Lord Mark Lancaster, called for the normalization of relations between Pristina and Belgrade.

"Allies should use consultative frameworks to advance the issue related to the status of Kosovo. Those who do not know the status of Kosovo, may consider Kosovo's participation in NATO and the partnership for peace."

The British representative also spoke about the arming of Serbia by Russia, saying that this is a destabilizing act for the region.

"Russia's influence in the Western Balkans is to destabilize this part of the world and hinder transatlantic integrations, as well as to build energy dependence in the sector, testing certain leaders. Russia has supported the separatist agenda, providing arms to Republika Srpska."

One of his demands was to strengthen the rule of law for Kosovo, Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

On the other hand, official Belgrade continued lobbying against the possibility of Kosovo advancing the status of the country, from an observer member to an associate member.
