The walls of the Hungarian and Slovak embassies are painted, messages from the genocide in Srebrenica

The walls of the Hungarian and Slovak embassies are painted, messages from the

Graffiti with the number 8,372 – which is the official death toll of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide – was placed on the walls of the Hungarian and Slovak embassies in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on Friday.

The graffiti appeared three weeks after the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution declaring July 11 the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Srebrenica Genocide.

Hungary was among 19 countries that joined Serbia in voting against the resolution. Slovakia was among the 68 countries that abstained.

Sarajevo police on June 14 confirmed to Radio Free Europe that the investigation into the graffiti at the two embassies had been completed and that the incident had been classified as vandalism.

Police also conducted an investigation on June 14 about the word "genocide" written in red letters on a residential building not far from the Serbian embassy in Sarajevo.

The law enforcement authority tasked with securing diplomatic missions in Bosnia stopped Radio Free Europe from photographing the graffiti, but their pictures were published online by the Public Service of Republika Srpska.

Neither embassy commented on the incident.

"We don't want to comment. You've seen the pictures. Of course we noticed, but we have no comment", the Hungarian embassy told Radio Free Europe.

The resolution passed on May 23 prompted furious reactions in Serbia and the Bosnian Serb region of Republika Srpska, where leaders said it would label all Serbian people as "supporters" of mass murder.

The resolution on Srebrenica does not mention either Serbia or Republika Srpska.

Among other things, it calls for "unreserved condemnation of any denial of the genocide in Srebrenica, as well as actions that glorify those convicted of war crimes, including those responsible for the genocide."

The International Court of Justice in The Hague characterized the crime in Srebrenica as genocide in 2007.

She found that Serbia was neither responsible nor complicit in the act, but stated that she did nothing to prevent it.

Serb forces in this eastern region of Bosnia and Herzegovina killed over 8,000 Bosniak men and boys in July 1995.

So far, more than 50 people were sentenced to about 700 years in prison for the committed genocide.
