At least 98 people were arrested Saturday by Turkish security forces after looting earthquake-damaged buildings in Turkey. According to security sources, who chose to remain anonymous, at least 42 suspects were being investigated in Turkey's southern Hatay province.
At least 40 suspects were arrested and security teams seized six guns, three rifles, jewelry, bank cards, $11,000 and 70,000 Turkish lira (about $3,700).
Two other people were also arrested after posing as emergency workers and allegedly trying to rob six trucks of food for earthquake victims in Hatay province, Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency said.
In addition, six people were also arrested in Istanbul for allegedly defrauding an earthquake victim in southern Gaziantep over the phone.
Elsewhere in the country, dozens of other suspects were arrested for suspected looting and robbery in the quake-hit areas. The suspects were arrested in at least eight provinces including Kahramanmaras, Hatay, Adiyaman, Malatya, Osmaniye, Adana, Gaziantep and Sanliurfa.
